A Potamus New Year LEAP!!!
Happy New Year, Y’all!
Did you make any resolutions? Reflect on what you are most grateful for in 2011? Or maybe you just ate WAY. TOO. MUCH. BRIE?
Ahem.
Wherever you were on the last night of 2011, you were also in the Potamus house. Well, a stick figure of you, prominently displayed on our white board under “Why 2011 ROCKED” and “People I have ridiculously awesome things planned for in 2012.”
Yummy recipes with photos that make you want to jump through your computer screen and stuff your face? Check.
Interviews with THE birth photographer (whose National Geographic entry ingnited a wildfire of comments) plus experts on:
- What REALLY causes morning sickness
- Why orthodontics can be a bad idea (and what you can instead)?
- And more?
Triple check. Giveaways like this handmade market tote made from recycled coffee sacks?
Oh yeah. I’m telling you, seriously good stuff will be happening here in 2012. But what is this leap I speak of? Well, that’s a little more personal . . .
A Glimpse Into Our Supersecret NYE Strategy Session
About that whiteboard: Daddypotamus and I like to wind down New Years Eve with a hunk of brie, a glass of wine and a frenzied session in which we draw circles furiously, erase, cross out letters and make fun of each other’s handwriting, and (hopefully) come up with a PLAN
Numero uno on the list this year has been in the works for some time:
We. Are. Moving.
For the past three years Daniel and I have struggled to figure out where we fit – we LOVE the community in Texas but feel like some of the basic elements of our life vision (especially access to natural beauty) are missing. It may not be a forever thing, but we are going to venture out and see what unfolds. The small town we’ve picked has the most adorable historic Main Street and no less than EIGHT festivals a year. We’re talking Dickens-style Christmases with over 250 costumed characters milling around the courthouse, jazz and chili cookoffs, irish whiskey and bluegrass.
The timeline is sketchy, but it’s something we’re sure enough of now that we wanted to share with you. As things firm up we’ll share more about where we’re headed, but for now [raises glass of kefir] here’s to the new year! May your life be filled with LEAPS and bounds toward your biggest dreams, bright blessings and unexpected joys!

Thank you, Joanna! It’s a bittersweet announcement because we are going to miss our community so much and yet we really feel this is our path. I have a great idea, though. COME VISIT US!!!

Awww! Texas will certainly miss you if it is terribly far away! We need a playdate in a big way before you move, you, me, Morgan Mayes, anyone else who wants to come!

Thank you, Mégan Miles Alba! We’re excited, too!

Yes, Jessica Savill! One of the reasons I decided to announce it now instead of when everything is final is that I want to have time for LOTS of meetups! I vote for a park day – the weather is beautiful!

P.S. There are too many people we love here not to visit! Plus, we’re renting out our house instead of selling it so we’ll be back to check on it
Kristine
I will really miss you guys, but I’m happy for you! I’m glad we’ve had some time together!
Heather
We will miss you too, Aunt Kiki!
Jennifer R.
Good luck with your move! Always exciting to make new plans for your life
I look forward to hearing about the orthodontics — I have a 13 year old and I dragged my feet for a while when it came to this (knowing how bad it could be and whether he really needed it). I decided to go with ceramic braces to avoid the loads of metal in his mouth. We also went with a more conservative orthodontist, so no palate expander. In addition, he’s getting cranial sacral adjustments from our chiropractor to help move things along faster.
Happy New Year!!
Heather
LOVE that you are doing cranial sacral adjustments, Jennifer! Happy new year!
Heather
Good for you! But hopefully you’re not living in the past, it’s 2012… you’re a year behind!
Heather
Oh my goodness, I am so embarrassed! Thank you, Heather! Great name, btw
caitlin

Aww, so happy for you! We have this same thought often but have yet to venture out! perhaps someday we will pick up our bootstraps and move on! Can hardly wait to hear where you’re going!
Martha
That orthodontics post sounds great! The sooner, the better.
I’m trying to decide how to proceed with our 8-yo — step 1 will be convincing family members that alternatives can be a good option.
Kaitlin
Oh my god! That town sound exactly like where I work/live! I hope it ends up being in Virginia!!
Kirsten
Doesn’t sound like you’re moving to Seattle, but I wish you were!
Alexis D
Sounds like an awesome town!
Really curious about the “What REALLY causes morning sickness” post and hope it comes much sooner than later (because ya know I could use some help in that department right about now, just sayin’
).
Heather
Whaaa? I had no idea! Congrats, Alexis!
