Are Home Births Safe?

Are home births, when attended by midwives, safe? Since I am crazy busy Daddypotamus does the Standard Process Weight Loss/Purification Cleanse” href=”” target=”_self”>helping Daddypotamus with his SP Cleanse I am going to let the experts speak today.

By experts, I mean real medical doctors and everything! I don’t get all of my research from the fringes you know (although that is the best place to look if you want research that’s not skewed by big companies with blank checks).

Whether you’re pro-home birth or more inclined to choose a hospital setting, check this video out. I promise it’s worth it ; – )

As a side note, home births costs less, too. I am one of the millions of uninsured, so this birth is coming out of our pocket. Daniel and Katie  are covered through his work, but the cost to add me was almost $1K per month. Unbelievable.

I would never put my baby’s health at risk to gain a financial advantage, but since I believe home is the safest place for me to give birth the savings are just a bonus.

As a side, side note: Regardless of the inconvenience of not having health insurance I am disappointed that the new government healthcare bill passed. Read Gov’t Healthcare and Me: Not Meant to Be! for my take on that.

Did this video change your view of home births? Would you do it (if you have a uterus)?

I hope you enjoyed Part 2 of my Birth Choice Series. To read part one, check out Are Hospital Birth Procedures Dangerous?

I’m really interested to see if any doctors weigh in on this. We’ve had a home birth after a year of research supporting its safety, and will continue to have home births as long as the Lord blesses us in that decision. :]

      Me, too. Although I can’t imagine any M.D.’s read my humble little blog. I’m not that dangerous . . . yet ; – )

So, Notice that you asked for people who had the knowledge to back up what they are saying to defend whether or not they think that homebirth is safe, NO ONE commented. To me, this shows me that all the nay sayers don’t have the evidence. Families who choose homebirth know the evidence.

We had our second baby at home and it was WONDERFUL! My husband tells everyone who will listen how great it is. We’d never do it any other way again unless we absolutely had to.

I can’t watch the video. The screen says “This video is private.”

I love your website! I do think home births are safest for non high-risk pregnancies. I was planning a home birth when we found out at 18 weeks that our “child” was actually identical twins. I couldn’t find anyone here who would have worked with us, at home or a birthing center, and I honestly think that was probably for the best as I went into preterm labor and delivered at 33 weeks. My girls were rushed to the NICU so although my original birth plan didn’t pan out their health was most important.
