I’m going to be a big sista!!!

Katie is always saying things that remind me just how much life is about to change. Thanks to a book on becoming a big sister that I checked out from the library, “ewe-tuor-us” (uterus) is now one of her favorite words.

Many of you will probably think this is nuts, but if Katie is comfortable with it I’d love her to be present at Babypotamus’ birth. Yes, the actual birth part. Katie is fascinated when we go to the chiropractor for an adjustment. At home we reenact everything Dr. Haggerton does. Cranial-sacral stuff, cold laser, Webster technique . . . the whole nine yards. She appears to be seriously considering it as a career.

If she loves the chiropractor, just imagine what she will think when she realizes what a midwife does! With her love of babies I can already see her walking up to my pregnant friends and palpitating their bellies, then pretending to pack up and go to births.

Daniel has not agreed to this. He thinks it will freak her out. We’ll see how it goes.

Mommy, you’re not holding me while I’m sleeping

Katie said this to me at 4am the other morning. She loves to cuddle when she’s asleep. (Yes, we are a co-sleeping family. Yes, we got pregnant despite sharing a family bed. No, it was not a fluke and NO!!! we do not do anything besides sleep in our family bed. Gross.)

All in all we are pretty happy with the arrangement. What’s going to happen when there is a newborn in the mix? Daniel’s got the nighttime cuddle shift covered, but what happens during the day when the baby is fussing and I can’t quietly lay my hand on Katie’s back for 15 minutes until she falls asleep? I love those moments with her. She’s used to the comforting presence of me, daddy or Gigi as she falls asleep. Should I end this before Babypotamus is born so she won’t feel resentful? Is there another way?

Any co-sleeping mommas out there wanna help me out on this? What did you do????

YIPPEEEEEEEE!!! Katie is now 99% potty trained (she still wears trainers at night). I am diaper-free . . . for about the next three months. I love that Katie tells me when she needs to go potty. I love not washing poopy diapers. In fact, I love it so much I am seriously considering doing elimination communication for bm’s with Babypotamus.

I have an unexpectedly significant amount of time on my hands today. More than I have had in years. Unfortunately, this prime blogging opportunity is being thwarted by the fact that I don’t feel very chatty right now. No fear! I bring you random photo collages instead ; – )

Under the weather

Katie has only been sick three times in her life . . . twice since I became pregnant. Although I am still nursing her my milk supply has decreased and it seems to have made her more vulnerable to illness.

I went to bed last night at 7:15 pm because she can’t breathe unless someone holds her in a sitting up position. The sacrifices we make!!!Similar Posts:

Rain Dance

Yesterday, Katie did a rain dance.

Or, at least, she was dancing in the rain. If I believed in that stuff, I would say that it was pretty effective, because it is supposed to rain for the rest of the (work) week!

So, instead of our planned trip to the park, we went to the mall. At 8:30 a.m. the mall is grandparent heaven! If your kid’s grandparents live far away or you just need a few extra pairs, stop by the mall early in the morning while they are all taking their power walks. Your child will be fawned over and adored like you wouldn’t believe!

After that we went to the indoor playground, which was full of mothers whose plans were also thwarted by the rain. Fortunately, they brought their kids, so Katie was very entertained : – )

Despite the fact that she really was having a good time I was barely able to catch a smile on camera. Usually she is very expressive, but today she was so subdued I barely recognized her. Maybe the rain had something to do with it. Here’s a halvsie that I pried out of her with a raisin bribe.

What happened next (or actually, what did not happen next) almost derailed the whole day . . . no nap. Before Katie came into my life I thought napping during the day was an indulgent luxury, if not downright lazy. Now I consider it an absolute necessity at least a few days a week. After driving her around in the car for almost an hour and being truly close to a mommy meltdown, I was rescued by Daniel. For some ***inexplicable*** reason he decided to work from home today.

Little Mommy

At just under 18 months Katie is already practicing her mommy skills. She hugs and rocks her “baby.”

She disciplines Maxwell for biting.

She loves to run errands and go grocery shopping.

Her help with housework leaves something to be desired, but she’s on track to become a top notch mommy someday.Similar Posts:
