Christmas In July Book Giveaway!!!

Affiliate Disclosure | in Favorite Things/Giveaways | by | with 529 Comments

Three uhMAZing cookbooks up for grabs!

There Is An Arctic Oasis In My Mailbox

Summer may swelter on, but it’s no match for the avalanche of books that have been delivered these past few weeks. Seriously, folks, Christmas in July is real – at least it is at the end of my dirt road. And now it’s my turn to play elf.

I’ve sorted, I’ve bookmarked, I’ve wiped drool off my sleeve, and what I have for you today are my top picks for the season. These three most recent arrivals are like the cherry on a giant homemade sundae, and though I originally asked you which ONE you wanted me to give away, I decided to toss all three in the pot! In no particular order, they are . . .

Against All Grain ~ Danielle Walker

You guys, I don’t even know where to begin. Just about every dish you’ve ever adored can be found in these pages, only yummier and free of processed junk. The photography is a feast for the eyes – sure to inspire you even on the days you don’t want to cook! My favorite part: Though Danielle’s vibrance is most definitely behind every recipe, she’s also right in front, sharing the story of her transformation.

Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in 2007, Danielle of the blog Against All Grain endured multiple hospitalizations, severe weight loss, thinning hair, and other problems. Her doctors gave her no hope for recovery – the best they could offer were heavy duty medications that might alleviate some of her symptoms. Through her own research, though, Danielle decided to change her diet in hopes of regaining her health, and it worked!

As you can see in the before/after photos, she is now the thriving mom of a gorgeous little boy, not to mention a ridiculously amazing self-taught chef. The Against All Grain Cookbook is a paleo-friendly culmination of her determination to regain her health without feeling like she was being cheated at every meal. And who could with recipes like these?

(SERIOUSLY, watch the video. This book is so beautiful it almost made me cry. Maybe that’s because I’m six months pregnant – maybe not! You decide.)

Beyond Bacon ~ Stacy Toth & Matthew McCarry

If “Bacon Makes Everything Better” is one of your life motto’s, this new book from Matt & Stacy of Paleo Parents may induce bliss. Every recipe  incorporates lard, bacon or some kind of pork in ways that are sure to make your mouth water. For example, those decadent brownies in the middle are made with lard and topped with ice cream/salted caramel bacon sauce! (Click on the image to enlarge the photo if you aren’t drooling enough already) (Click here to learn how to render lard)

Here are a few more recipes I can’t wait to try:

  • Savory Bacon Jam fantastic with green apples or Homestyle Biscuits
  • Fried “Corn” Dogs – really!
  • Sweet treats made luxuriously rich with lard, such as Grain-Free Pie Crust, Salted Mocha Biscotti, Chocolate Fudge, and Maple Lard Scones,
  • Instructions on how to properly BBQ and smoke your meats as well as recipes to make your own sauces
  • Instructions for curing your own bacon, pancetta and even home-made sausage better than store bought
  • Perfect Pork Chops

Fermented ~ Jill Ciciarelli

If your family grimaces when you pull kraut out of the fridge it might be time to move beyond the basics. This book will inspire you with recipes for homemade red wine vinegar, salami, kombucha sangria and yogurt cheese. There are even recipes for “shrubs,” which are fermented drinks I’ve never heard of! Apparently they date back to Colonial times and come in both alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions, like:

  • Raspberry Mint
  • Strawberry-Tarragon
  • Plum
  • Cranberry

Strawberry-Tarragon is first on my list of things to try – yum!

I enjoy reading cookbooks. But I’d most like to read Against All Grains. I think that it’s important to incorporate many styles of healthy foods into our family diet. And we have not known allergies. But it seems that it’s not only important to always eat healthy, it’s becoming more and more important to know how to cook something that others who do have these allergies’ can enjoy. You have company, you assist at parties and community events, and it would be nice if there was something there for everyone to enjoy!

  464. Shelia Storey says:

The Paleo Diet is the one I’m most interested in as I have to do a gluten free diet due to Celiac Disease. All 3 look interesting though.
FYI, your link about “liking Mommypotamus” doesn’t work right as it expects you to put something in a box. It is not like pinterest so you won’t have a url to post same thing with the next one for the email list.

  481. Miss B says:

All these books look amazing, if I had to pick one.. I think it would be Against all grain. With the minor health issues I have, and my son, I have tried grain free in the past with success. However I didn’t know how to cook good tasting grain free food so my family was quite unhappy about the changes even though they felt better. So, I would like a great recipe book to start again! I also love the fermenting book as I learnt how important fermented foods are for your health and again I don’t have the knowledge to prepare the food confidently

  482. Joi Thomas says:

    All of them :) <3

  483. Maureen says:

What great looking books!! That ferment one looks awesome!

  484. Emily says:

  487. Jessica says:

The Against All Grains book looks awesome! The pictures are beautiful!!! We are on a basiclly grain free diet right now, so I could use some inspiration.

  493. I REALLY want all of them, but if I had to choose, I’d pick Fermented, because I just started brewing my own kombucha and I’d like to expand into sauerkraut and other picked things! Go gut health!

  494. rachel says:

All three look great. Having trouble with making fermented cucumbers!!! First real failure…want to keep up the momentum. Thanks!

  501. Jennifer Hofmann says:

The title of this blog post made me smile… When my Mom was still with me, she had this wonderful little quirk of always forgetting where she hid one of the Christmas present she bought for me. She would always find it either during spring cleaning or in the summer. She would walk up to me and say… “Merry Christmas in July (or whatever month it was). Thank you for making me smile today.

  511. Karen Close says:

Ohhhh! I want to learn All about all of it!

  512. dee m says:

I would love to win “Against All Grain Delectable Paleo Recipes To Eat Well & Feel Great”.. I have been dabbling with avoiding glutens the last year. It is tough getting the right combinations of gluten free ingredients to get a great end result. I suffer with auto immune complications, with RA, Fibromyalgia, Endometriosis, Chronic Fatigue. All these heightened a few years ago when I got struck by lightening. I have been making life changes in our diets the last years. I have always cooked from scratch, that helps. I am always looking for ways to better our health, my health. I just want to feel good again… its been a long time!! Thank you! :)

  513. Aimee c says:

I’d really like against the grain!
