Meal Plan Monday

on May 3 | in Recipes | by | with 2 Comments

Guess what? Whole Foods sells real cultured foods! Real fermented pickles, sauerkraut, miso and more! They’re not in the condiment aisle with the boring vinegar-brine pickles. Nope . . . they’re right next to the dairy section in their own little case. Thank you Dr. Cindy . . . I had no idea!

This is a HUGE deal to me since I have had to cut back on the number of “science experiments” I have sitting on the counter while our house is on the market. Awhile back I was showing our house to a single mom. When she opened my kitchen cabinet out burst the pungent smell of two large jars of fermenting kombucha. “We like to make our own special tea,” I say as nonchalantly as possible. “Like moonshine?” she asked. Um yeah, kinda freaks people out.

Now that I can temporarily skip the mad scientist phase I am back to preparing nourishing meals with a fermented punch. If you’ve never looked into fermentation, check out Cheeseslave’s 8 Reasons to Eat Fermented Foods.

Lizzy, you are SO NICE to cook a separate meal for your hubby. I am selfish and usually prepare what I’m craving. I know ya’ll have different dietary guidelines, but I can’t imagine doing all that work and not getting to enjoy the fruit of my labor!

Where did you get your kung pow chicken recipe? Asian food (and mustard) are my main cravings this pregnancy and I’d love to try it!
