OKLAHOMA where the wind comes sweeping down the plains

This is not going to be a “Not Me Monday.” But if it were one, I would say that I did NOT mix up the dates for Ellie Kate’s birthday (the daughter of my amazing friend Meredith), which was taking place in Oklahoma City. I did NOT realize my mistake late Friday night and then haul myself out of bed at 5:30 am, throw some things that didn’t match in the car, and leave my husband in Texas for a quick mommy-daughter getaway.

But like I said, this is not a “Not Me” blog. I actually did head to Oklahoma and you know what? Spending a day in someone else’s everyday life can be very relaxing! For the first time in a long time I had no schedule, no “to-do” list, and no internet. I loved catching up with Meredith

. . . watching our kids play

and exploring Native Roots Market.

Ben offered to watch the kids in the car while we ran into Qdoba (think Chipotle) and ordered food. Here he is squished in the backseat so we could sit up front and talk/drive.

When we walked in we were so excited to see a “Saturday only: Free kids meal with any entree purchase” sign. We ordered our entrees and a few kids meals, too. The man-boy behind the counter gave us a look like “But, you don’t have any kids with you.” I told him we had eleven in the car. Seriously, did he really think we were that cheap?

The drive home was loooong, and since my daughter has been seeing a chiropractor since she was one week old she knows exactly what to say to tempt me to pull the car over and cuddle her.

“Mommy, my back hurts. I need some holding”

I didn’t, though. I adjusted my seat AGAIN, continued praying while trying to ignore the fact that I was simultaneously speeding, and willed the miles to pass.

Katie woke up from a great nap about 3 minutes from home and upon our arrival Daniel literally grabbed her for forced cuddles. He confessed to sleeping with Caroline (the babydoll she sleeps with) because he missed her so much. I’m pretty sure he also told me not to blog about it, but I’m also pretty sure he didn’t mean it : – )

Then, I walked into a house that is CLEANER THAN I LEFT IT!!!

Now that’s a great weekend!

Heather - I'm the Mommypotamus. I do what I can to love my family through delicious local, organic meals and parenting methods that are challenging and not exactly mainstream, but will hopefully help our children become the amazing people they have the potential to be.

The weekend was rough on me. Not only did I have to transfer all our sites from one hosting company to another, but I also missed my wife and baby girl something fierce.

I’ve only spent a total of 7 days away from my family since my daughter was born. Each time it has felt more unpleasant. I get this ache in my chest. I need to hold and hug my girls.
