Welcome to Day 1 of Daddypotamus’ cleanse! My goal is to make this as easy on him as possible (and you, too, if you are one of the few and proud that have undertaken this challenge), so you’re going to see a lot more on the menu than boring old salads.

Happy first cleanse day, Daddypotamus. Everything you eat today was prepared with even more love than usual ; – )

Breakfast: Strawberry Twist Shake

Original recipe from Standard Process:

  • 1 cup strawberries
  • 1 cup freshly juiced carrots
  • 1 Tbs. flaxseed oil
  • 2 rounded Tbs. of SP Complete
  • Ice cubes or cold water

We added:

  • 2 Tbs . Whey Pro Complete
  • Handful fresh spinach
  • Egg yolks for Mommypotamus and Katie
  • I also hid Katie’s supplements in her smoothie. Sneaky, but effective ; – )

Lunch: Avocado Chutney

Cleansing or not, this recipe is worth savoring.

Snacks

  • Bubbies pickles (they are fermented and therefore ok)
  • Baby carrots
  • Apples
  • Sliced cucumber

Dinner:

Asparagus Fries

Green salad with Apple Cider Vinaigrette

Half a sweet potato with a smidge of butter (The chiropractors that are overseeing his cleanse said that high-quality grass-fed butter is a healthy fat and can be used)

For Mommypotamus, Gigi & Katie: Whole baked chicken

Daniel is definitely detoxing and didn’t feel great today, but he did like the food!!!

Many of the cleanse recipes I blogged about were experiments, and some weren’t so great. So I went back and tested new recipes, and I created an eBook showcasing the BEST TASTING Cleanse Recipes I came up with. You won’t find them in my blog. These look great! You can have as much butter as you want/need according to standard process. Daniel is fortunate to have you helping him through this! These meals are way more exciting then ours when on the cleanse…looking forward to doing it again and using these meals!

That Avocado Chutney looks amazing. I’m definitely making that soon! You are doing such a great job helping him through the cleanse. Way to go!

Thanks, Jerri! Like everyone else I find it difficult to incorporate enough fresh veggies into my diet. The avocado chutney is my favorite “go to” recipe when I need to eat a lot of fresh produce but don’t feel motivated. It’s also one of my favorite dishes to impress guests with on a hot summer day ; – )

I found your site through Dr. Cindy. That chutney looks amazing! Were you able to find fresh, organic corn? I think that my dh could do this and I think he would like it. LOL I don’t think the rest of us would mind either. Thanks for blogging. I can’t wait to read about the other recipes.

Thanks for commenting, Susie! It’s always nice to “see” a new face around here ; – ) I used organic frozen corn since the fresh stuff in not in season right now.

Hi Heather – I found your site by googling Holy Cow Beef (recommended to us by local farmer friends). It’s been a long, LONG time since I came across a blog I like…but yours I LIKE. Your family’s interests/lifestyle are akin to ours, but I appreciate how you don’t come across as holier-than-thou (and it seems like a lot of folks in the blogworld DO). I’ll be keeping up with you, mommypotamus! :) Pls keep posting!

Hi Jana, it’s wonderful to meet another like-minded DFW local! I can’t say enough good things about Weldon Warren (the owner of Holy Cow Beef). He literally spent hours helping me prepare a response after Nolan Ryan’s CEO commented on this blog. I never imagined passionate farmers could be about what they do until I started getting to know them.

I hope you do keep up with our family. We are hoping to buy at least an acre in the burbs this year to begin a suburban farm. Our goal is to use our land to teach local families how easy it is to grow a PRODUCTIVE garden, even on small suburban plots. We want extra land for chicken and goats, but that’s not probably doable for everyone. Anyway, so glad you stopped by. Thanks for commenting!

    Heather,
Chad is on day 1 on the SP cleanse (and modified version for me while breastfeeding) and your recipes are going to be such a lifesaver. We just devoured the chutney for lunch–amazing! Quick question: red pepper is listed twice. is there another ingredient that should be in its place on the double listing?
    thanks again; I’m most grateful!

Hi lishele! I can’t remember everything but I think the main thing was I ate meat protein the entire time and also added extra fats (coconut oil and butter) into my diet.

    Hello Mommypotamus!

I found your blog through another blog and came across your cleaning posts. Could you recommend a cleanse for someone for is lactose intolerant? One that is just an overall cleanse that especailly good for the stomach and intestines.

Hi Kristen – I don’t know of one but I’ve sent your question to a chiropractor friend that knows a lot more than me. I’ll let you know if he has any ideas.

    Hi Heather,
I just started the Standard Process Cleanse. I’m confused about your day 1 recipes. I see sweet potatoes with butter and chicken for dinner. According to the Standard Process booklet that came with my cleanse, I’m not supposed to add in meats until day 11. Is this a revised version of the cleanse to suit your families needs? Or, am I missing something.

I just made the chutney. Very good. Thanks for the recipe.

By the way, in answer to Kristen’s question, Standard Process does have a lactose free version of their cleanse as well.

Thanks for sharing all these great tips and recipes.

    Tammy

Hi Tammy! I was breastfeeding at the time so my chiro advised me to keep animal-based protein in throughout the cleanse. My husband waited until day 11 to introduce meat. Regarding the butter, my chiro believes that healthy fats improve hormone function and can even help with weight loss so he encouraged us not to restrict them too much :)

I’m subscribed to your newsletter and was browsing through the website today and found this. I just happen to be five days into my SP cleanse, funny. Wish I’d seen your recipes before I started, but I guess it’s not too late either.
