Things I Love (July)
The Way You Made Me Laugh . . .
Cry, sigh and - ahem – very possibly ovulate was one of the highlights of this month. Maybe you should post adorable squishy baby photos on my Facebook wall to dial up the baby fever a bit more, eh?
Seriously, though, thank you for sharing your stories of beauty and strength. I am in awe of you! Now, if you don’t mind, I’d like to share the little things that made my month sparkle just a bit more.
Things That Made Me Smile In July
- Transforming a premature fruit harvest known as “Mommy, I shook the tree!” into peaches and cream, peach freezer jam, 6 quarts of pear butter and counting
- Waiting for the figs to ripen, and trying not to shake the tree myself!
- Discovering the “Stuff You Missed In History Class” podcast. Because yes, I really **do** need to try to solve the mystery of what happened to Amelia Earhart while stargazing myself to sleep at night
- Impromptu conversations with total strangers about Sandor Katz, Katie’s love of exact change, and what I’m going to do with 10 pounds of cabbage (here’s a hint)
- These dessert bars, because I love anything with lemon filling
- Rediscovering an old time-saving trick – easy meatballs in my freezer for a rainy day (or better yet, a sunny day when I’d rather be out playing than cooking!)
- Losing my Southern Taco Queen crown to my friend, because I got her seasoning recipe instead
- Finding a pearl in my oyster
- Real, honest-to-goodness homemade French’s-style mustard for the perfect July cookout (with soaked white bean flour instead of arrowroot)
- And of course, these moments ♥

Amy
Those are beautiful pictures! What made me smile in July? When my 19 month old appeared to be devouring the fresh peas we bought from a farmer’s market in Canada, but instead had stuck them all up her nose!

Bwhahahaha! That is just awesome, Amy! My 22 month old just smiled up at me while nursing and then peed all over me – with his diaper on! Kids keep you on your toes, eh?
Carrie
Finding a pearl in your oyster is considered very good luck. Yay for you! My favorite part of July happens today – fig picking!
Heather
Ahhh, you just inspired me to run outside and see if mine are ready yet! Yay figs!
Jamie
Getting to introduce my parents to their first grandbaby <3
Heather
Awww, congrats Jamie! Hope you are enjoying every minute of the first weeks with your little one. New baby snuggles are the best!

Yesterday my 7 month old had the hiccups. With each one, he’d start giggling.

That is adorable, Nadia Allard! Sometimes when Katie and I are having an “off” day we pull up YouTube videos of babies laughing – it’s impossible to be grumpy after that!

When my husband texted me that he was going to get the oil changed in the car after work, so i asked him if he wanted me to lock up the kids. He said, huh?? Ummmm, PICK!!!! I meant pick up the kids!!!!

Lol, Cassie Powell! Was it autocorrect or did you actually say it?
Cassie Powell via FB
It was an autocorrect. Lol…gonna end up on DYAC.

I have one I should submit, too! Great idea, Cassie Powell! In the meantime, please keep the kids free range

July was a good month. I smiled because i got to tell my parents they will soon be grandparents, i had the best solo indian buffet lunch ever, I danced in the rain to blues with my love, among many other things
