What Topics Would You Come Here Most Often to Read?

Daddypotamus here. Welcome to the bright, beautiful third day of 2011. I hope you have all been safe, healthy, and snuggly (holiday season is the only time I’ll wish you snugglies, promise).

Here’s the deal: Heather and I have debated back and forth for some time about what you all REALLY come here to read. Let’s be honest. Some of you read one or two good posts and have kept coming back in hopes of getting more potamy goodness. But then Heather goes on and on about other topics you aren’t necessarily interested in. It happens.

I think I know what interests you most (because OBVIOUSLY I have the pulse of every young semi-crunchy woman). So does she. And just as you might expect, we do not agree.  Since we MUST* declare a winner, that’s where you come in. You’re our super special tie breakers.

You can vote for two topics and PLEASE specify in the comments if your fave Mommypotamus topic isn’t listed below. Prove me right. Help me Mommywankenobi… you’re my only hope.

*Okay, must is maybe a little to strong. We just really want this settled because we’re competitive like that. :)

Daddypotamus and I need you to help us settle a bet!

  2. Whittney says:

It is only allowing me to choose 1 topic!

    • Heather says:

Yep, you’re right . . . it was only allowing one vote at a time. It should be accepting two now but I’m not sure if it will let you vote again since it recognizes ISP addresses. If you happen to try again will you let me know if it worked for you? THANKS!!!

  3. Whittney says:

Ok, I voted b/c I waited for you to fix it. :) I voted other for investigative journalism of controversial topics!

  4. Tiffany says:

I voted for one thing yesterday but wanted you to know my second option is Alternative Health Solution. But as an FYI, I love reading everything you post and I really think you have a great mix.

    • Heather says:

Thanks, Tiffany! Alternative health solutions is #1 right now, which really surprises me. In fact I almost didn’t include it as a category. I’m happy to oblige, though!

  5. bethany says:

Hey Heather! This is my first ever comment =0) I came across your blog through Destiney V’s blog and love it! I voted for “other” because I really, really appreciate the research blogs you have written. The water piece was so helpful as was the toothpaste blog. Your blog has been very informative and a great starting place for me to start exploring real, local, organic, total lifestyle changes! Keep it coming! All of this can feel overwhelming but you help make it more managable.
**If I could have voted for a third catagory it would have been birth storis and info. Even though I am single I hope to be a mom one day and I love to read about other women having this amazing experience. =0)

    • Heather says:

It’s nice to “meet” you, Bethany! I’ll have to thank Des AGAIN for putting me on her blogroll. :) So glad you liked the water series. I thought it was a total bust, but a few people let me know recently that they found it helpful and I’m really glad! So glad you’re here. Thanks for voting!

  6. Lesley says:

I voted yesterday and it wont let me vote again…so I will vote for safe and healthy household products…mainly cause I like to know of these, but mostly because it gives me a place to send other people to read about things I already know and want to educate others on! 😉
And I too really enjoy most everything you write about ( ok not most everything…but everything!) Even if I don’t agree or feel that some things are just gonna be different for people because, well, we are Different or are in different chapters in our life, its always thought provoking and makes me get out of my own head and read about how others feel and do things…and I think thats most important. We become ignorant by not hearing out others, looking at other options and not getting out of our own set ways….I hope to never be ignorant!! AS a strong prolifer who worked in the pro-life community, one of the most challenging articles I have ever read was on this blog by someone who is pro-choice. ( so thank you for trusting God to use that article to open some eyes!) You guys do great work…thanks for plugging along for all our enjoyment!! =)

    • Heather says:

I know you know this Lesley, but just so there’s no confustion that article was by a guest author. I am pro-life, too! That post WAS very challenging, but I’m glad I allowed Julie to share her views with us because it allowed me to think through several aspects of the issue I hadn’t considered. And because Katie Guy’s response reframed the whole issue for me. (Her thoughts are in the comments and are very worth reading).

I cannot pick just TWO! I come here because I want to read about all of them, yes, ALL of them :)

    • Heather says:

Wow, I gotta say, this was mostly about ending an ongoing debate with the hubs, but I am really feeling loved today!!!

  9. margo says:

Only picking 2 is not fair! I have said before and say it again, I LOVE YOUR BLOG! I love the recipes (going to make one, one of these days…I’m a little slow to get things done), I love the information (the water was interesting and I am currently working on a proposal to my husband about it),and I just enjoy reading about your “mommypotamus” stuff. So keep it coming

    • Heather says:

Oh that’s funny . . . I create proposals for daddypotamus, too! If you like seafood, try the shrimp bisque. It’s my fave. :)

  10. Kirsten says:

I totally agree with Margo! If there were an “all of the above” option, I would have chosen that! :) Your blog is the BEST! (p.s. who’s winning the debate? 😉 )

    • Heather says:

Neither of us! Your votes are totally taking us by surprise. Right now recipes are #1. Almost no one comments on them so we thought that category would be at the bottom for sure. II would have stopped posting them long ago but it’s actually how I organize them for myself, LOL!

  11. Alexis says:

I tried to vote a second time b/c it only allowed me to vote for one the first time but like you mentioned it recognizes that I voted before so no options to choose from! A second choice would be Children Health Concerns.

By the way just wanted to let you know that I really appreciated the water series (so it wasnt a bust in my eyes – it was very good reading and information that led to my hubby & I get a good water filter system).

    • Heather says:

Wow, I didn’t think I’d ever write another series like the water one again but I think I will reconsider. Thanks for your feedback!

Quick question: Do you have any specific children’s health concerns you’d like to discuss??

      • Alexis says:

I cant think of any in particular at the moment – its one of those things where its more of I like to read about children’s health concerns so if I ever come across it personally or know of other mom’s with children I can reference back to your website for help.

Just thought of one – infant acid reflux. Why does it seem like this is on the rise? I see little kids who come into my office (I’m an exercise physiologist) and its like every single one of them is on some type of acid reflux medication! My own daughter was prescribed it as well when she was 3 months old but I did my research and started giving her infant probiotics to suck off my finger and it worked well for her – thank goodness! Interesting fact – Prevacid is an addictive drug so I wasnt too keen on getting my daughter hooked on drugs…at 3 months old!!!

  12. Melinda says:

Well, I mulled it over and chose two. However, I came from your blog post on Cafe Modern (I love it and have been friends with the exec chef for years) and continue to read for the first 6 options. (unless it switches options around each time it shows the poll.)

If I had little people, I’d be into the mommy stuff I’m sure. 😀

  13. Jennifer R. says:

I have to say, I enjoy them all too. Loved your water series — as I know I need to get a better water filtration system for our house. I am into all sorts of alternative things, so any more info on that is very helpful. My kids are 12, 10, and 5, so I’m just getting out of the toddler stage (this is the first year all my kids have been in school — a new stage in my life!!). I do love reading about birth stories too. My advice — keep on doing what you are doing :)

  15. Megan Alba says:

Heather, I really enjoyed the water post. We’ve been drinking bottled water because our tap water is AWFUL. I don’t like it but it’s the lesser of all evils. Now we’re saving up for a Berkey. I’ve never been so excited about getting a water filter before!

I would love to know more about alternative health solutions because I am in an ongoing battle with eczema. I’m trying to get off the corticosteroids the doctor has given me, but there is so much conflicting information out there about natural remedies for skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis! It’s been frustrating, to say the least.

I’d also be interested in recommended reading. I stopped by the bookstore today and was overwhelmed by the titles. I didn’t even know where to begin! I’d love to see some book reviews or a recommended reading list for those of us starting the journey to a healthier lifestyle.

  16. Mary says:

I would love for you to write more articles about healthy things that can be done a tight budget.

  17. Joanna moore says:

I just have to say, every time you have even hinted at the idea of quitting your blog, I get sad. I voted the other day for two but I totally enjoy everything you write. Like I look forward to reading your post every day! Informative, funny, heartwarming, encouraging, challenging all in one place. Keep it up girlfriend!

    • Heather says:

Have I hinted at it before? I didn’t meant to. In this case I waited until I was absolutely sure I wanted to continue before mentioning it either way.

  18. Kathryn Nordyke says:

You are going to tell us which one of you wins the bet, right?? =)

  19. Theresa Carmichall via Facebook says:

So I just voted and have to say picking only two was hard! You have some great options. I’m new to the blog but enjoy it already. Keep up the good work!

  20. Mary says:

I would love to hear your stance on disciplining children. There are so many views out there and it would be nice to hear your perspective.
